Melting:
Iron is melted in one of or 3 six tonne coreless electric induction furnaces. Only top grade steel scrap and pig iron are used to give consistency of analysis. The furnaces are operated under computer control to give the optimum melting conditions for speed and energy consumption and give us flexibility to produce a wide range of grades to tight specifications. A full laboratory with a computer controlled spectrograph and tensile testing facilities mean we can certify the material in all our castings.

Pattern Making:
We have a large well-equipped pattern shop where we can make and repair patterns. We also use this facility for marking out sample castings. We have the Solstar system of computer solidification modelling to help with the design of patterns and running systems.

Moulding:
We have 4 moulding areas. The Heavy Bay for large Jobbing castings. The Fast Loop area for Batch castings on a boxless loop system that is computer controlled. A Craft section for low volume intricate castings that can use loose patterns. A shell moulding section using Super Simplex moulding machines for high accuracy volume castings.

Coremaking:
Large cores are made on a circulating box system with overhead cranes to deliver them direct to the moulds. Other cores are made from virgin sand on computer controlled cold box coreblowers for accuracy and consistency.

Casting:
Large moulds are assembled and cast in the heavy bay. Loop moulds are put on computer controlled carriers and circulate from the moulding section to the pouring area and on the knockout. Shell moulds are put on a large circular conveyor that takes them to the casting area then on to the knockout.

Shotblasting and Dressing and Heat treatment:
Our main blast will take casting of upto 5 tonnes and throws over 1 tonne of shot per minute to produce a fine clean casting surface. The dressing shop is fully equipped with the best tools and handling devices. Castings that require heat treatment are routed to this department and they are processed in the computer controlled gas or electric furnaces depending the nature of treatment required.

Inspection:
All castings pass through final inspection where experienced staff carefully check every casting. Extra tests specified such as X-ray, magnetic particle, gauging, ultra sonics are also carried out.

Despatch and Painting:
Castings are painted to customers specifications either by dipping or spraying. Most castings are palletised and shrink rapped or packed for export before despatch.
